Cataloguing of lodge jewels

Tuscan Lodge No. 14 - jewel

The Library and Museum's project of cataloguing the many thousands of lodge jewels in its collection is continuing. This fine example dates from 1870 and was presented by Tuscan Lodge No 14 to Frank Richardson, Master of the lodge in 1869. It is a fine example of lodge jewels of this period with delicate metalwork and enamel. The ribbon, originally dark red, has discoloured over time.

Frank Richardson, a solicitor, was initiated in Tuscan Lodge in 1863. He became an active and senior Freemason, a member of many lodges and was Grand Director of Ceremonies from 1904 to 1912. His obituary estimated that, in his various Grand Officer roles, he had taken part in over 550 consecrations of new lodges.
